The Franklin expedition was lost in 1845 trying to find the Northwest Passage.
Interesting tidbits  - -  HMS Terror was one of the ships that bombarded Ft McHenry during the War of 1812. Along with HMS Erebus, both ships were with James Clark Ross in the exploration of Antarctica.
